We pick three
How to kick off the first weekend of the second semester with this weekend’s events
Note: “We pick three” is a rotating column where Spectator writers pick their top three upcoming events in Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley.
An Authentic Soul – The Paintings of Susan Carew Johnson
Artisan Forge Studios will be showcasing the artwork of Susan Johnson. Johnson has been an artist for about 20 years but just recently started showing her work in galleries.
“I’ve played with art and did a lot in high school and college, but over the last two years I’ve rented a studio,” Johnson said.
Johnson said she’s been a nurse for about 30 years but has started to transition to art during highly stressful times.
“I’ve always used art as a centering practice and an expressive meditative practice,” Johnson said.
Johnson said she loves to create an energetic and abstract feeling through her art and its many layers of paint.
Johnson said there’s always a variety of different kinds of art at the studio and there’s an eclectic group of artists currently there.
Johnson’s art can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until Feb. 6.
This event is free and takes place at Artisan Forge Studios, 1106 Mondovi Rd.
Ice Cream for Breakfast
From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 6 at Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor you’ll be able to live your childhood dream of having ice cream for breakfast.
Ramone’s will be teaming up with Raybay’s Donut Company to provide donut ice cream sandwiches to celebrate National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.
Raybay’s donuts are made fresh every day and delivered right to Eau Claire resident’s doors.
Not only will Ramone’s be serving donut ice cream sandwiches, but they will have specialty breakfast shakes and malts.
Ramone’s owners — Kayla and Blayne Midthun — were visiting Stillwater, MN in 2015 and enjoying malts from a local grill and malt shop when they said they wished their own hometown of Eau Claire had nostalgic ice cream and malt shop.
Their dream came true in the spring of 2017 when they had the opportunity to start their shop.
The event is free to join, but one can purchase any treats to enjoy. It will take place at Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor at 503 Galloway St.

The ECCT will also be holding “A Winnie the Pooh Birthday Tail” auditions for ages 10 to adult from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7 and Monday, Feb. 8.
