Springfest gives UW-Eau Claire students distractions from classes
Springfest events all over campus for students and staff
The first week of May is scheduled to be the UW-Eau Claire Springfest. According to the University Activities Commission, or UAC, Springfest is meant to be a break for students as the spring semester comes to an end.
Emma Packard, a festival chair for Springfest, said that she has been helping plan out and execute the Springfest events and get students involved.
“Our theme is break out of your shell so we hope people will try something new,” she said.
According to the Springfest page, the week is full of events for students to participate in. Starting on Monday there was a free plant giveaway on Upper Campus. There was also a Homerun Derby from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bollinger Fields.
On Tuesday there is the Spring Dash and Bash, which is an event where teams of two will compete in numerous challenges around campus. According to the events page, the bash sign-up is at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and begins at 6:00 p.m.
The Bash will be at Garfield Ave. Terrace in front of McIntyre Library. It is open to the community and will have food, music, activities, games and giveaways.
According to the same events page, Tuesday also offers a Soccer Tennis Tournament from 6 to 9 p.m. at the tennis courts behind McPhee. There is also the final Queer Climbing Night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the bouldering wall in Hilltop Recreation Center.
On Wednesday there will be a Rock Painting event with free ice cream. This event is at 10:30 a.m. in Davies Plaza. Also according to the events page, there will be an Employee Wellness Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Campus Mall.
Gracie DeWan, also a festival chair, said she helped implement Springfest to help students get out there in the last few weeks of the academic year.
“We are just trying to do a lot of events to get students outside,” she said.
According to the events page, Thursday will have free lemonade, cookies and punch at 10:30 a.m. at Davies Plaza.
The Environmental Adventure Center, or EAC, will be putting on a hangout on Thursday in Owen Park. According to the Springfest page, they will offer slacklining, bags, disc golf and more activities.
According to the Springfest page, on Friday there is a chalk event at 10 a.m. in the Campus Mall where students can decorate the sidewalks.
There will also be a screening of Philadelphia in Woodland Theater in the Davies Student Center. These free screenings are on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. for all students.
Also according to the events page, there will be a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Zorn Arena. Performers Bryce Vine and Landon Conrath will be there and tickets are on sale now.
On Saturday there will be a Cabin Show with Dad Bod and the Nunnery at 6 p.m. in The Cabin. There is also a pickleball Tournament from 5 to 7:45 p.m. in McPhee room 210C.
According to the Springfest page, the EAC will have free rentals all week for students. More information can be found on their website.
