Students passed a referendum last week renewing UW-Eau Claire’s membership to United Council, a state-wide association that advocates for student issues such as tuition, financial aid and recruitment, according to their website.
The referendum, which was approved by Student Senate on Sept. 19, adds $3 per semester to tuition that goes to fund United Council. Students voted with 65.2 percent in favor and 34.8 percent against, with 1,912 votes cast. The vote was administered by an email sent from Qualtrics, the university-supported surveying software.
The $3 fee is up from $2 in previous years. In total, Eau Claire will contribute around $65,000 from fees, which is up from around $45,000.
Any student can opt-out of the fee and receive a refund of the $3 and postage by sending a written request to United Council.
