UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich is one of four finalists for president of Westminster College, a small private liberal arts school in Utah, according to an email sent last week from Levin-Stankevich.

Westminster College announced the finalists on March 7 in a press release, stating the search for a new president attracted a diverse and highly qualified group of candidates from across the country, as well as internationally.

During his time at Eau Claire, Levin-Stankevich both initiated and led the planning of new academic programs and obtained funding for three new construction projects totaling $100 million, including the new W.R. Davies Center.

In his email sent to campus faculty, staff and student government organizations, Levin-Stankevich said although he receives many invitations and nominations for similar positions, he routinely declines them.

“The invitation to consider the presidency of Westminster College was sufficiently attractive academically, professionally and personally to warrant my further exploration,”
he said.

In a letter of interest to the search committee posted on Westminster’s website, Levin-Stankevich expressed his frustration with the political and public funding climate in Wisconsin. He wrote that it is his belief that private institutions are most able to focus first and foremost on education and their true missions.

In his email to the Eau Claire campus community, Levin-Stankevich said he will continue to serve, promote and work on behalf of UW-Eau Claire.

“I am extremely proud of our history and our continuing accomplishments in a difficult external environment,” he wrote. “This in no way diminishes the deep admiration and attachment I have developed for this great campus and community.”
