Blunt denial
Saturday, Oct. 20
Around midnight, an officer was sent to Sutherland Hall for a drug case. The RA on duty met with the officer and advised that he noticed the scent of marijuana coming from one of the rooms on his floor.
The officer smelled near the door jam to the room and did not detect the odor of marijuana. The officer then smelled near the door jam of the room across the hall and detected the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the room.
The officer knocked on the door to the room. He could hear movement and voices within the room. After knocking several more times over the span of a minute, a man answered the door and identified himself as a resident of the room.
The officer then asked if he could step inside to speak to the young man, and was told he could. The officer observed two others within the room. He then asked the resident of the room if they had been smoking marijuana, to which the resident denied several times.
The officer also questioned him, asking if he were permitted to search the possessions within the room. He refused the officer’s request. The three were checked by the communication center and the officer was told that all three were clear of any previous charges. The officer then cleared the scene.
Two officers and a traffic stop
Sunday, Oct. 21
Around 3 p.m., an officer was assigned to check a vehicle heading eastbound in a left turn lane on W. Clairemont Avenue that was now stopped with its flashers on.
Upon arrival, the officer identified the car as the vehicle that another officer had just checked on and was cleared three minutes prior. When he spoke to the individuals, they stated that the officer had advised them to wait for friends to come pick them up and remove the vehicle.
They then showed the officer the paperwork they received from the traffic stop.
