A garbage can to the stars
Friday Oct. 19
At around 9 p.m., an officer was contacted by someone on student patrol about people on the roof of the McPhee Center. The officer pulled up on the east side of the Olson addition only to see a man climbing down off of a lower section of the roof of the addition. The man approached the squad car, and the officer asked him what he was doing on the roof. The man told the officer that he was on the roof with five friends. The officer saw a green dumpster sitting next to the building with a plastic garbage container on top of it.
Another officer arrived and told the man he had to get his friends down from the roof. The man went on to do that, using the dumpster and the garbage can in the process. There were three women and three men in the group. The original officer on scene talked with the men and the second officer spoke with the women, warning them that they could not be on the roof.
The officers reported that the group was “stargazing.” The group apologized and insisted that it would not happen again.
Both officers said the group was “very cooperative” throughout contact.
Hip Hip Hookah
Wednesday Oct. 24
At around 11 p.m., an officer received a complaint on the department cell phone about a loud noise. The complainant said that a group of people were sitting at a covered picnic table adjacent to a campus residence hall talking and laughing very loudly.
The officer walked over and saw the group smoking out of a hookah pipe. The officer talked to the group and told them about the complaint. They apologized and the officer asked them to quiet down.
