What is up, ladies.
One of us has been hurt in a way that nobody should be hurt. If you haven’t heard about the girl who was brutally raped at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, let me catch you up.
Phi Gamma Delta, also known as FIJI, at UNL is a fraternity who has morals that are a bit messed up, to say the least.
A Reddit user took to social media and posted FIJI’s pledge rules. Some include, “no crying to mom, no fagetry and no Mexicans,” more can be found here.
So, as we can already see, this fraternity is racist and homophobic among other things, like being absolute pigs.
Not only are FIJI’s rules leaned sideways, but so is what happened to an unidentified 17-year-old girl during the first week of classes.
Max Helm, a FIJI fraternity member, had brutally raped the 17-year-old and left her on the front lawn bleeding on Aug. 24.
It didn’t take long for word to spread about this horrific incident, hundreds of students and others gathered in front of the fraternity house to protest against them.
Students held signs that read “Rapists don’t belong at UNL, they belong in prison,” and “Even my dog understands when I say no.”
A petition to abolish FIJI was started and within days received 800,000 signatures.
Videos of the protest went viral on multiple social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
To make matters worse, Helm has since fled to Mexico. What a coward. If you ask me, he should deal with all the consequences that come his way for doing such a thing.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this has happened; it was actually the 103rd time it has happened at the FIJI fraternity house since 2015.
If you didn’t know this already, this fraternity has a long line of misconduct on campus.
TikTok User, hotcatmom, alumni of UNL Greek life, goes on to say that the fraternity has a “rape floor” The idea is once a girl enters she has given her consent. Do these girls know anything about this idea? No. Is this consent in any way? Absolutely not.
She also mentioned that at a MeToo protest, the fraternity showed up shouting “No means yes,” and something about that just doesn’t sit right with me. Actually, none of this does.
This poor 17-year-old has barely started her college career at the University, considering classes started just last Monday.
She now has to live knowing that Helm gets to walk away with just a sexual assault and rape charge. No arrest as of yet.
The only silver lining thus far is that UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green has since shut down FIJI and suspended all operations.
Green also stated in an interview with ABC 8 News “No means no. And if you violate that, and we can prove that — you have no place on our campus.”
I hope the 17-year-old can receive the justice she deserves, as well as all the support and love from the university and its students.
She should know that she has my full love and support. Nobody should have to experience something like that.
