Pokémon is no stranger to leaks. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire infamously had the files for the entire game in it, allowing dataminers to spoil any surprises Game Freak had left.
The Pokémon developer had the jackpot of all leaks over the weekend. Nobody is sure how yet, but over a terabyte of stolen information has made its way out of Game Freak’s offices and onto the internet.
The information has come through Centro Leaks on X. They are continuing to upload information as it becomes available.
When news of the leak first broke, our expectations were low. Maybe we would get beta sprites or source code. Those things were present, but they were merely the tip of the iceberg.
So much lore has leaked. This ranges from the literal creation of the Pokémon universe to tales of sex and murder.
Yes, you read that right. There’s no more avoiding the Gardevoir in the room.
Human-Pokémon sexual relations are now canon to the Pokémon universe.
One story involves a man meeting a female Octillery on the beach. They have relations multiple times. A few days later, she comes to him in a dream and says that she will allow him to raise “their child.” The next day, he finds a young boy resembling him on the beach.
The boy finds a sword on the beach. He walks through the forest with this sword and encounters an Ursaring. He then proceeds to chop the Ursaring limb from limb and kill thirty more.
The scariest part of this story? It’s the most tame story from the leak that involves Pokémon and humans getting freaky.
In other lore news, Arceus is the closest thing to a god the Pokémon world has. All we knew before the leak was the following: before the world, there was nothing but an egg. Arceus hatched from this egg and created the universe with its 1000 arms.
The leak gave us lore that literally starts with “in the beginning.” Arceus, known as Aus here, emerges from the egg to bring order to the chaos of nothingness. The remnants of the eggshell turn into giants and attack Aus, who subdues them and makes them the gods of time and space.
In more tangible news, the leaks gave us the source code for the games Pokémon HeartGold, Pokémon SoulSilver, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2.
A myriad of beta sprites were discovered, mostly for creatures from Generation 3 and Generation 5. Check them out here.
We have received an internal code name for the Nintendo Switch’s successor: “ounce.” Here’s hoping they announce the Nintendo Wiid.
Pokémon’s tenth generation is being developed for this new system, as was likely expected. It is codenamed “Gaia.” Game Freak is also working on an MMO codenamed “Synapse.”
I have barely scratched the surface of this leak, but I already put off this story to make sure I had modern information. As of writing this article, the leak is ongoing. There’s so much info, I could probably spend the rest of the semester covering it and still barely make a dent.
We have yet to see how Game Freak responds to the information being leaked if they will respond at all. Either way, now they have big shoes to fill with next year’s Legends: Z-A.
