Track and Field had a successful weekend in Winona and Whitewater

Blugolds track and field will start their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference meet on May 4.

UW-Eau Claire’s men and women’s track and field team competed at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minn. and at UW-Whitewater last weekend.

On April 28, Blugolds track and field competed in the St. Mary’s Open invite. The women’s team participated in a total of 13 events, and the men’s team participated in 14 events.

In the 200-meter dash finals, seven of Eau Claire’s women placed in the top 30. Tommie Brenner, junior, placed highest for the team in seventh place with a time of 26.40 seconds. Four of the Blugolds’ men’s track team placed in the 200 meter dash. At the head of the pack was Lucas Larson, a first-year athlete, who placed eighth with a time of 22.78 seconds.

Heidi Wilken, first-year, placed third in the 800-meter dash with the final time of 2:26:00.

Brenner also competed in 100-meter hurdles, securing first place for her team with a time of 15.08 seconds. The men’s team competed in the 110-meter hurdles and Tyler Bouchard, junior, placed fourth with a time of 16.02 seconds.

Coach Chip Schneider said that Brenner was one of the top athletes for the Blugolds at the St. Mary’s meet.

“Brenner was one of our top athletes this week.” Schneider said. “She had a really good race in the hurdles and 200.”

In shot put for the women, JoHannah Theisen, senior, managed a distance of 13.59 meters and second place. Close behind Theisen was Kassandra Lueck, second-year, who placed third and threw at a distance of 12.69 meters. For men, Chris Anderson, a first-year athlete, placed sixth with a distance of 13.58 meters.

In the 1,500-meter dash for the men, Patrick Treacy, junior, placed second with a time of 4:02:00. Rachel Hirsch placed 15th for the women in this event, and produced a time of 5:03:00.

In the hammer throw category, Eau Claire’s Josie Burns, senior, placed fourth for the women’s team with a distance of 48.22 meters. Thomas Jensen placed eleventh with a distance of 43.67 meters along with first year students Chris Anderson, who took 23rd, and Lance Johnsrud, who placed 27th for the men.

On April 28, the Blugolds traveled to Whitewater to compete in the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet.

Brad Stoll, senior, competed in shot put for Blugolds’ men’s track and field. Stoll placed 6th in the category of 30 athletes. His time for the finals was 14.87 meters.

Schneider said that he was pleased to see that many of his athletes from both the men and women’s teams made it to the finals against Division I, II and III schools at the Drake meet.

Blugolds track and field next event will be on Friday May 4, where they will compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference at River Falls, Wisconsin.
