Women’s Golf places in top five at two invitationals this past weekend
Eau Claire’s Lexi Meade leads Blugolds in scoring at LaCrosse Invitational
On the weekend of Sept. 24 the UW-Eau Claire Women’s Golf team competed in two invitationals.
The Blugolds last outing was the weekend prior where they placed no. 13 overall in the Division III classic, which took place at the Emerald Green Golf Course, with Senior Lexi Meade scoring 150 in two rounds to get an individual placement of 5th, according to Blugold Athletics.
The UW-La Crosse invitational took place on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Cedar Creek Golf Club. As seen on Blugold Athletics, the Blugolds ended Saturday above their score from the previous weekend, placing fifth overall Saturday.
Meade would again lead scoring for the Blugolds with a score of 76(+5). This would put her in second place overall, as can be seen on Blugold Athletics.
Second year Jilli Newman was second in scoring for the Blugolds, placing no. 16 overall, with a score of 87(+16), according to Blugold Athletics.
The Saturday invitational was followed by another outing the next day. This time it was the Viterbo V-Hawk invitational, which took place at the La Crosse Country Club.
As seen on Blugold Athletics, the Blugolds would one-up their performance from the day before with a score of 355 (+67) placing them fourth among the rest of the competition.
Newman and Meade would continue to lead the pack again, with scores of 80(+8) and 87(+15) respectively. This would be Meade’s fourth time finishing top five this season and both would finish in the top 15, according to Blugold Athletics.
Cadie Ash, who finished Sunday with a score of 95 for the Blugolds, spoke about maintaining a positive attitude throughout the weekend.
“(Sunday) we played a very hard course, and we did very well on keeping our heads level,” she said. “ We had very good morale at the start of the tournament coming from the day before.”
Ash also noted some areas the team recognises they could all collectively improve upon.
“All of us agreed (on Sunday) that we need to work on putting,” she said “ We played a course that had some really tough greens and we all struggled in the putting department.”
Looking forward to the schedule for the Blugolds, the WIAC golf championships for golf will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire at the Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, more info can be found on Blugold Athletics.
Ash would also shed some light on how the blugolds are looking to progress leading up to the tournament in a couple weeks.
“We’re all trying to lower our scores and we’re getting ready for Conference, our most important tournament, in two weekends,” she said. “We’re all just trying to find ways to make our team better.”
The WIAC championships will begin Friday, Oct. 7 and continue through that weekend. More information on dates and times can be found on Blugold Athletics.
