Maddie Kasper is a fourth-year journalism and political science student and this is her seventh semester at The Spectator. She covered the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate for three consecutive semesters and dreams of being a national political correspondent, but also loves sports photography. She adores poems about oranges, obsessively logging movies on Letterboxd and the Half Price Books on the east side of Madison.

Local grunge band ValleyKiL was formed in Eau Claire in summer 2024 and is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Emm K with Seany Cope on lead guitar, Kman on bass and Ryan Pleski on drums. ValleyKiL’s inspirations are Foo Fighters, Stevie Nicks and The Pretty Reckless.

Downtown Eau Claire Inc. (DECI), a local nonprofit aimed at promoting downtown businesses and hosting community-based events, held its annual trick-or-treating event on Saturday, Oct. 26. Participating downtown businesses on N. Barstow street and S. Barstow street handed out candy to trick-or-treaters.
