The Blugold women’s swimming and diving team brought home another first-place finish against conference opponent UW-Whitewater, on Saturday, with a score of 143-93, at Whitewater. The men’s team received second against Whitewater’s men with a score of 134-101.
“Iÿam really pleased with people’s swims,” coach Rob Welcher said. “The team is showing me how aggressive they can be in order to achieve what we’ve worked for this whole season.”
Junior Liz VonFeldt led the Blugold women with freshmen Cori Severson and Annie Gorman. All three were members of the 400-yard freestyle relay, which took first. Severson and VonFeldt, members of the 400-yard medley relay, also took first.
Severson finished first in the 200-yard freestyle, VonFeldt took first place in the 200-yard butterfly and Gorman won the 50-yard freestyle.
The men’s team took second place with leaders junior Mike Carroll and junior John Welch.
Carroll won the 500-yard freestyle and took second in the 200-yard freestyle. Welch finished first in the 1,650-yard freestyle as well as getting a personal best with a time of 18 minutes and 3.55 seconds.
“There were many close finishesÿand many of the swimmers walked away with personal or season-best times,” assistant coach Matt Oglesby said.
Senior Ashley Quist received a personal best in the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke.
The women’s diving team was led by freshman Andrea Lashbrook, who won both 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Senior Dan VonFeldt qualified for nationals in the 3-meter and received a score of 240 in the 1-meter.
“I am more than satisfied by the way our divers are performing and I couldn’t be happier with my qualification for nationals,” said Dan VonFeldt. Adam VonFeldt gotÿhis personal best in the 3-meter with a score of 188.
The Blugold swimming and diving team will compete in one more home meet against UW-Oshkosh this weekend.
