Both of the UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s track teams will continue waiting for the outdoor track season to begin due to wintery weather conditions across the Midwest.
On Saturday, the Norse Relays were set to be held at Luther College (Iowa), but the weather and unsafe track conditions forced the meet’s cancellation.
It is uncertain as to whether the meet will be rescheduled.
With the Norse Relays cancellation, both teams have less than a month before the WIAC Outdoor meet, which will be held May 3 in Stevens Point.
The loss of a meet gives the teams’ participants one less meet to make an attempt at qualifying for national competition.
To qualify, an individual has to meet specific requirements at any of the meets throughout the season.
The men are scheduled to begin their season at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Phil Esten Invite in La Crosse.
The women are set to compete Saturday at the Lee Krough Invite in St. Peter (Minn.). The start time for the women is yet to be determined.
