On Saturday the UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in their final meet before nationals. Both teams finished first.
The men took first place out of 19 competitors. The team finished with 84.50 points, while second place UW-Stevens Point finished with 70. UW-Oshkosh finished with 56 points, Monmouth College (Ill.) finished with 53, and UW-La Crosse finished fifth with 51.50.
Sophomore James Marsh finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8 minutes and 58.08 seconds. Two other Blugolds finished in the top five in the event. Freshman Kevin Weber finished third with a time of 9:11.74 and sophomore Ben Pearson finished fourth with a time of 9:14.40. In the one-mile run, junior Tony Carr finished third with a time of 4:26.96.
Freshman Logan Koerten finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.44 meters. Junior Joe Felber placed second, behind Koerten, with a distance of 13.35 meters. Koerten also won the long jump with a distance of 6.73 meters.
The women took first place out of 13 competitors Saturday. The Blugolds finished with 89.50 points, while runner up UW-Oshkosh finished with 74 points. Illinois Wesleyan University finished third with 61 points, UW-Stevens Point finished fourth with 40 points and Monmouth College (Ill.) finished fifth with 39 points.
Sophomore Amy Oldenburg finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.66 meters while freshman teammate Liz Amici finished third with a distance of 10.62 meters. Junior Alicia Schuelke finished second in the high jump with a 1.62 meter leap. Sophomore Tonya White finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.97 meters. Sophomore Hayley Suckow’s height of 3.45 meters in the pole vault was good enough to place third in the event.
Sophomore Jamie Arentz and junior Julie Meis finished first and second in the 3,000-meter run, but were the only two to compete in the event. Senior Claudia Borlee finished second in the one-mile run with a time of 5:22.60. Sophomore Amy Bachinski finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.46.
Both track and field teams will compete in the NCAA indoor championship in Ada, Ohio, on March 14 and 15.
