The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team came away with a 5-2 victory for the second consecutive day.
The win came in a non-conference match against Macalester College (Minn.) just a day after defeating UW-River Falls by the same score.
Freshman Shyla Gilbertson got the scoring started in the 13th minute on a goal that was assisted by sophomore Lisa Marco.
Fifteen minutes later Macalester tied things up at one, but the Blugolds wouldn’t lose their lead for long. Less than a minute later Senior Sam Krueger netted her first goal of the season and put Eau Claire back on top.
In the 35th minute junior Ali Mater added to the lead. The goal was also her first of the year, and was assisted by junior Gina Christenbury.
After halftime, Eau Claire was fully in command after two goals from freshman Emily Alsheskie. The first came in the 69th minute, and the second came in the 87th minute before things were all but over.
Macalester was able to put one more shot in the goal before things concluded, bringing the final score to 5-2.
The Blugolds outshot Macalester in both halves, and ended up doubling their total shots 16-8. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Kidd came up with four saves in the contest.
Eau Claire has now won three straight games and will take on UW-Platteville next at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Bollinger fields.
