In their spring opener, the UW – Eau Claire men’s tennis team lost their first contest 9-0 to Coe College (Iowa), but fought their way to a win against Principia College (Ill.) Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Playing against Coe, the Blugolds came close to wins in a few matches, but were unable to come away with any victories. They bounced back against Principia, however. With a 7-2 win, Eau Claire only lost their first two singles matches.
Sophomore Michael Roden played a 6-0 and 6-1 at the no. 4 singles match against Principia, while juniors Ryan Vande Linde and Joe Meier won 8-4 in the no. 1 spot.
Meier also won at the no. 3 spot in singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-0. In the no. 3 spot senior Florent Marco and junior Brayden Parman won 8-1 for doubles.
The Blugolds will next face Michigan Tech and St. Cloud State (Minn.) Saturday in St. Cloud.
