The UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team is moving on to the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship game after defeating Utica College (N.Y.) 5-1 in Lake Placid during their semifinals game on Friday.
Utica’s Louis Educate scored the first goal of the night, halfway through the second period. But the Blugolds quickly responded with two goals scored within 22 seconds of each other.
Senior forward Jordan Singer made the first goal, with an assist from sophomore forward Ross Andersen, and Andersen followed it up with a goal of his own.
The line made up of forwards Andersen, senior Andrew McCabe and senior Kurt Weston remained on top of the puck throughout the game, and Weston scored the final two goals of the game in the third period.
McCabe grabbed an assist on Weston’s first goal, and sophomore defenseman Jack Callahan offered assists on both.
At 6 p.m. (CST) tomorrow night, the Blugolds will play in their first NCAA championship final and face Oswego State (N.Y.).
