Undefeated weekend for women’s tennis sets up showdown
After the day was over, they had only lost one game out of the 18.
The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team is still undefeated after taking home two victories by beating Wartburg College (Iowa) and Lawrence University Sept. 7.
The Blugolds won 9-0 over Lawrence and 8-1 over Wartburg. The overall victory for the team brings them to a record of 3-0 on the season as the team looks to its three matches Friday and Saturday at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
Against Wartburg, senior Katie Gillman dug out out a tough victory during No.1 single competition, winning 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) but coasted in No. 1 doubles competition 8-0.
During the sweep of Lawrence College, in addition to the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams winning handily, No. 3 doubles competitors in junior Renee Nelson and sophomore Paige Kuepers won their match, 8-0.
The women’s tennis team plays three matches this weekend starting against UW-Whitewater 3:00 p.m. Friday, and will look to see if they can continue the hot start to their season.
