Wrestlers get three second-place finishes in first meet of the season (Brief)
The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team opened their season on the road as they competed in the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Open Saturday morning in Rochester, Minn.
Three of the five Blugolds competing finished runner-up in their matches, but all finished at least sixth place or higher. Sophomore Nathaniel Behnke fell in the championship round of the 141 weight category by a decision of 6-3. Freshman Ryan Behnke also finished second in the 165 category falling 14-6 as well as freshman Josh Cormican who got pinned in his match at 197.
At 157, sophomore Matt Koch finished fifth, winning his last match by a decision of 8-3. Freshman Justin Karkula placed sixth at 285 losing by a decision of 13-10.
The Blugolds will compete at the Pointer Open at 9 a.m. next Saturday, hosted by UW-Stevens Point.
