The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis swept St. Norbert 9-0 Friday night, thanks to their ability to put their practice into their play head coach Tom Gillman said.

Not only was the Blugold doubles teams consistent once again but so were singles, behind sophomore Will Weyenberg.

Gillman said that Weyenberg led the singles group thanks to his consistency and hard work, Weyenberg at No. 2 singles won, 6-1, 6-1.

along with Weyenberg, Junior Kyle Hoffman pulled off a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number one singles continuing the theme of solid singles play.

Freshman Andrew Rust also notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number three singles while sophomore Michael Mauthe won 6-1, 6-1 at number four singles.

“We were able to simplify things at singles this week,” Gillman said. “We gave good clean returns and moved well on the court to stay with our opponent.”

In doubles much was the same for the Blugolds on Friday.

Hoffmann and Dahl defeated their opponent 8-3 at number one while Weyenberg and Rust won 8-1 at number two.

The number three team of junior Jordon Stevens and Mauthe finished the sweep winning without a blemish, 8-0.

Gillman said that in doubles is when the guys must be most disciplined, and he has definitely seen a huge improvement in doubles play with his teams hard work in practice and in match play.

“With this young team we are going to have our ups and downs,” Gillman said. “However, we are an extremely consistent young team which puts us ahead of the curve.”

The Blugolds will host St. Scholastica at 7 p.m. next Friday at the Eau Claire YMCA.
