Women’s golf team ranks fourth at Fall Invite
Chomniak places high individually
The UW- Eau Claire women’s golf team placed fourth overall at the Fall Invite versus UW-Whitewater at The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove this weekend.
After the first round, UW-Eau Claire held a team score of 344 while Whitewater lead with 316.
Allison Chomniak, a fourth-year, shot 78 to tie her for third. Monica Cucuntao, a first-year, tied for twentieth place and Jessica Rudniki, a second-year, tied for twenty-eighth overall.
“The challenging part of this tournament was teeing off in 40-degree weather,” Rudniki said. “Wearing lots of layers restricts your swing, but the team was able to overcome this challenge.”
On Sunday, the final day of play, Chomniak shot a 77 to finish with an end score of 155(+11). Rudnicki shot 88, ending with a score of 177 and finishing in 24 overall. Abbie Ter Maat took forty-first place, Anna Uzpen and Monica Cucunato tied for sixty-fifth.
Overall, the team shot 352 during round two and moved up to finish in fourth place.
“We really emphasize to have fun and enjoy the tournament experience,” said Darrin Skinner, head coach of the women’s golf team. “Our team performed will to finish fourth out of fifteen teams. The team is starting to perform the way I would hope.”
Individually, Allison Chomniak had her best two-day total in her collegiate career and has been an WIAC All-Conference selection the past three years.
The Blugolds will travel to Stevens Point Sunday for the Mad Dawg invite hosted by Stevens Point.
